Overview

TravelMeetEat is a friend-finding app for travel foodies to connect and share their food and travel experience. As part of TravelMeetEat’s design update, the next step was the message experience. We were challenged to figure out the issues and strategize the best solutions for a more efficient end-to-end experience for our users.

Original Design

These were the messaging experience screens that TravelMeetEat initially had before we started on the design update.

Wireframes

We used paper and pen to sketch multiple flows to go broad with our brainstorm phase. This allowed us to show all the possible message experiences that we were envisioning for TravelMeetEat.

Initial Design

After finishing the wireframes, we worked on polishing our designs on Figma to present to the team.

Team Feedback

In this phase, we looked over and discussed the designs for each screen to choose the best ones for our users.

Some of the feedback were:

  1. empty state design needed

  2. click search for a full list?

  3. narrow down the list as you type letters to find your friend to message

  4. unsure about the search bar being present and disappearing as we scroll down

  5. textbox might need a limitation

  6. radio style and not checkbox style

Empty State Design

The team was presented with these three empty state designs for the initial message screen and message sending screen. After reviewing and discussing the second and third screen designs, we agreed on the second screen to be our message sending empty state design.

High Fidelity Design

These are the finalized end-to-end experience for our design update on TravelMeetEat’s message experience.

Takeaways

At the start of this project, we were expecting to finish within a month or two. Instead, this project required more screens than we thought which delayed our launch. But we were able to finish the project with great and satisfying results.

Some of the next steps for TravelMeetEat are:

  1. Look over the message screens and make any edits needed

  2. Working on the incorporating business accounts

  3. Finishing up the update for cutting board experience

  4. Starting on the profile experience
